Jalan Alor -> Jalan Kejora

A week ago...I wrote this:

HAHAHAHA!

The government has yet again manage to amuse the rakyat with their silly antics. They figured the whole area should be renamed to reflect the names of stars (Bukit Bintang)....so they promptly renamed the famous Jalan Alor....to Jalan Kejora

I was in the library waiting for QJ to finish his ITP presentation...and he called before I could finish the post so I left it at that....and forgot to continue it :P

Yesterday I read in The Star Online....

Jalan Alor will keep its name - that’s the decision of Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique.

It is understood that the decision was made by him after listening to feedback from the public and City Hall following the uproar over the name change of the world-renowned street to Jalan Kejora.

....

“The Datuk Bandar will an­­nounce the decision next week, please be patient,” he said.

LOL...Never thought they'd change their mind. I thought they would just ignore the uproar over the issue and keep the name as Kejora...and the people would just ignore the name change and keep referring it to what it was for the past 35 years: Jalan Alor....Looks like someone up there has brains afterall..../snigger

The move was stupid. Imagine the number of people who are affected, would have to change their address just because the ministry thought it'd be nice to name the roads after stars...lame. Not to mention tourists who would get confused over the new/old street name. Plus...locals would just stubbornly call it Jalan Alor anyway...Imagine this:

A: Where's your shop?
B: Jalan Kejora there.
A: Jalan what? Where the heck is that?
B: Aiya....Alor there la...
A: Ooooo..Jalan Alor there horrr...Aiyo say la!

Mmmm...wonder what silly things would the government whip up next...
